Friends,

This Sunday we officially kick off our fundraising for our new
hymnals. This project has been about 8 years in the making, and we
have been a part of that process through much of it. Field testing
different services, hymns, and the like. So I feel like we already
have a good idea about what this new hymnal will look like.

If you are interested, please go to:

http://lsb.cph.org/

There you can find a wealth of resources about Lutheran Service Book.

I'll be speaking about this a little bit after the service on Sunday,
but I wanted to give some of you a "heads up" on how this will work.

We have received two very generous anonymous donations that will get
us going in the right direction. They will pay for all of the
various editions for organists, altar book, agenda, pastor's
companion, and the like. They may also help with hymnals for the
parish hall and/or the choir room, as need arises.

In the meantime, we need 202 hymnals for the pews and chancel at
Messiah. They cost $20 each, including shipping. What we are
proposing on Sunday is to ask each family, as they are able, to
purchase as many hymnals for the church as they are able, either as
memorials, in celebration of Messiah's 45th anniversary (this year),
or simply as a gift to the church. I would hope that each family
will at least donate enough for the number of hymnals they actually
use in church, but that is between you and the Lord.

In addition, we are offering both the pew edition ($20) and the
personal edition (a little smaller and leather bound at $40), for
people to purchase for their homes. We will be using them with the
Congregation at Prayer, at meetings, bible studies, and pretty much
anywhere we can. It is a wonderful resource of faith and comfort,
and every Lutheran should own their own hymnals. So you have the
opportunity to pre-order those as well as you are able.

Anyway, it's an exciting time for Messiah! By God's grace, I'm
preaching this Sunday, so hopefully things are moving in the right
direction.

See you in Church,
Pastor Peperkorn
